Fetească Regală, one of Romania and Moldova’s most emblematic white grape varieties, is prized for its natural freshness, aromatic finesse, and vibrant structure. Known for producing elegant and expressive wines, it thrives in calcareous soils where it develops marked minerality and lively acidity.

In the glass, this wine is crystal-clear and bright, displaying a brilliant straw-yellow color.

The nose is lively and refined, revealing delicate wildflower aromas, gently complemented by hints of apricot and subtle orchard fruit. A light mineral nuance adds precision and sophistication.

On the palate, the wine is fresh, vibrant, and well-balanced, with a pleasant acidity that gives energy and lift. The subtle fruit character is enhanced by a distinct mineral backbone that lingers elegantly on the finish.

Overall, it is a crisp, mineral-driven, and refreshing white wine, showcasing the noble and “royal” personality that defines Fetească Regală.

The origin of TOTEM lies in three vital elements that shape every great wine: earth, sun, and water — the fundamental forces that create terroir. Yet beyond nature itself, TOTEM reflects an inseparable connection with the winemaker, the human spirit that transforms these elements into wine.

This symbolic harmony between the natural energies of the land and the passion of the creator became the foundation of the TOTEM concept. It is a tribute to the deep cultural roots of Moldovan viticulture, where winemaking is not merely a craft, but part of the nation’s identity.

“The creation of wine is part of our DNA — a living expression of our history and culture, which over time has become a noble national calling. Inspired by this passion and guided by a force in which, like a protective totem, our ancestors believed, we continue at Château Vartely to craft wines symbolically named ‘TOTEM’.”

TOTEM represents a collection of five wines, each infused with local symbolism and legends that celebrate Moldovan heritage. The series reflects both tradition and modern vision, connecting past and present through terroir-driven expression.

Each bottle invites discovery: by scanning the QR code on the label, the consumer can explore the four symbolic elements behind the collection — earth, sun, water, and the totem itself — and uncover the legend that brings these wines to life.

IGP Codru is Moldova’s most prestigious and historically significant wine region, located in the central part of the country. The name “Codru” refers to the vast forests that surround and protect the vineyards, creating a naturally moderated microclimate ideal for high-quality viticulture.

Climate

Codru benefits from a moderate continental climate with balanced seasonal variation.
Summers are warm but not excessively hot, while autumns are long and relatively dry, allowing for slow, even ripening.
The surrounding forests reduce extreme temperature fluctuations and protect vines from harsh winter winds.
Annual rainfall is higher here than in southern Moldova, contributing to freshness and aromatic precision in the wines.

Soils

The region is dominated by chernozem soils, often mixed with limestone and clay-limestone subsoils.
These soils offer good drainage while maintaining sufficient water reserves.
Limestone components contribute to mineral tension and structural finesse, particularly in white wines.

Topography

Vineyards are planted on rolling hills at elevations between 150–300 meters.
Sloped sites ensure optimal sun exposure and air circulation, helping maintain grape health and balanced ripening.

Grape Varieties

Codru is especially known for high-quality white wines and sparkling bases, (Feteasca Regala, Viorica, Riesling) but also elegant reds.
