The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected to ensure optimal quality.
After gentle destemming, they undergo extended maceration and fermentation in concrete tanks, a choice that preserves purity of fruit and enhances textural definition.
Fermentation is carried out exclusively with indigenous yeasts over a period of approximately 20 days, allowing the wine to fully express its natural terroir and varietal character.
Following fermentation, the wine is aged in concrete tanks for a minimum of one year, promoting slow micro-oxygenation without the influence of oak.
This approach enhances structure and aging potential, while maintaining the wine’s freshness, fruit-driven profile, and authentic expression of the grape variety. Intense dark purple to almost black color, showing depth and concentration.  Expressive aromas of ripe red fruits, underlined by a pronounced mineral character, shaped by maturation in concrete amphoras.  The palate is powerful and complex, with a creamy texture resulting from malolactic fermentation in amphoras.
The wine shows excellent balance between fruit intensity, mineral tension, and structure, leading to a long, persistent finish.

What to Pair it With:

  • Lamb
  • Seasonal vegetables
  • Ripened cheeses
  • Semi-matured cheeses

The IGP Valul lui Traian wine region, situated in southern Moldova, is defined by a complex geological structure that plays a decisive role in the style and quality of its wines.

The dominant soils are calcareous chernozems, formed over limestone bedrock, with varying proportions of clay, sand, and marl. These soils are moderately fertile, promoting balanced vine vigor and naturally limiting yields.

  • Limestone and calcareous substrates contribute to elevated pH in the soils, enhancing aromatic precision, acidity retention, and mineral expression in the wines.
  • Clay-rich layers improve water retention, providing a crucial reserve during the region’s dry summer months and supporting steady vine metabolism through the ripening period.
  • Sandy and loess components ensure effective drainage and encourage deep root penetration, increasing vine resilience and terroir expression.

The warm continental climate, moderated by proximity to the Black Sea basin, interacts with these soils to extend the ripening cycle. Day–night temperature variation supports phenolic maturity without loss of freshness, while soil heat retention accelerates ripening early in the season and stabilizes it later.

These soil conditions favor:

  • Small to medium berry size
  • High skin-to-juice ratio
  • Concentrated phenolics and color
  • Balanced sugar accumulation with preserved acidity

As a result, wines from Valul lui Traian often show ripe black and red fruit profiles, savory spice, firm yet polished tannins, and a saline–mineral finish, reflecting the region’s calcareous foundations.
